| 1st shift has a busy day. Pictures are of the fire call at the former Jimmy's Tavern, 1134 E. Wood on 12/9/10. Fire started in the middle of the building which was undergoing repair. Fire fighting went defensive after damage was found in the structure of the building. Herald & Review article. All pictures taken by Jason Bruns. A second fire at the 100 block S. College at 4:49 pm was quickly extinguished. | |

| Our Lady of Angels school fire, 52 years ago, on December 1st, 1958. 95 people perished in the fire, 92 students, and 3 nuns. Although the school had passed a fire inspection just weeks before, it had only 1 fire escape, no sprinklers, no automatic fire alarm, no fire resistant stairwells, and numerous other fire hazards. As a result of this tragic fire, sweeping changes were made in school fire safety. Pictures from the book "Chicago Fires" and the OLA website.
